  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Diane Thiel’s poem â€Å"The Minefield† is about a man who’s mind has been ravaged by memories of a war in his childhood. She shows that even though the war had been over for years, the memory of it haunted the man in everything that he did. Through a powerful combination of symbols, dark images, and a split chronology, she creates a full picture of a life changed forever by war.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In the first stanza, the tone is lighter, describing a scene where two boys are running through towns. The boys race, the faster one being described as a â€Å"wild rabbit†. This stanza feels dream like, the organization of thought is loose, and word choice seems almost erratic, almost unrehearsed. The first stanza ends with a twist. The faster boy is killed by a mine and his friend, just seconds behind, witnesses the whole thing.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The second stanza is only two lines, â€Å"My father told us this, one night,/and then continued eating dinner.† This stanza breaks up the chronology of the poem, pushing the previous stanza into the past, and making it disjointed, almost like another poem in itself. The result of the father continuing eating after he tells the story shows how dead he is inside, the recalling of the story no longer affecting him in the same way it does the reader and his own family. It is implied that he is the only one able to eat after telling the story. This short stanza foreshadows the father’s personality change.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In the third stanza, the language becomes much darker, words like: anger, explode, and against make this stanza seem even more warlike than the first stanza.

Sometimes moves are forced due to certain situations, such as new job or trouble in home. No matter what the reason; moving to another state for anybody is somewhat difficult. I moved from New York to North Carolina a year ago. I decided to move with my grandmother until I can get on my feet.For me, the specific effects of moving from one state to another were, meeting new people, starting over and emotions. The first significant effect of moving from one state to another for me was meeting new people. Making new friends is not easy, because I am not a gregarious person; which can be a detriment for me. Plus in today’s society I can not trust everybody. Me being from New York, people tend to judge me. They may think I have a nasty attitude or that I think I am better than them; because of where I come from .So when I am out in the public I do try and communicate with others; once I have held a conversation with someone and tell them that I am from New York; they seem surprise, because they heard of northern people being arrogant and rude. Which sometimes get annoying, I feel like I have to put forth extra when trying to get to know someone; I want people to build their own opinion about who I am and not what they heard. I want them to see that there are some good people up north. After a few days I started being more confident in talking to people.The second significant effect of moving from one state to another is starting over in looking for a decent neighborhood, to raise my children. Not knowing which areas were good or bad; made the decision difficult for me. Finding the right neighborhood was not my only issue; finding the right apartment was not easy either. The area would have to be kid friendly, a community park and pool would be nice. I have to be sure if it is the place for me, for I do not plan on moving no time soon. Once that is done, I can move on to my next step; which is finding the right daycare for my children to attend.Just like the doctor issue; it is somewhat similar. I have to really do my research for daycares; I am very nervous about leaving my children with someone I practically know. With younger kids that are unable to communicate the situation is harder to deal with. There are things that I have to look for; such as, the cleanliness of the area, how well do the other assistants interact with the children and so forth. The third significant effect of moving from one state to another was the emotions of the love ones around me. With the big move came a lot of stress.Having to deal with the move, looking for the right daycare and doctors; was not a very easy thing. But what really affected me, is when I knew I was leaving behind all my family and friends. People I known all my life were not going to be there anymore. The children also s howed signs that the move had affected them. They were moody than usual. When dropping them off at daycare; they would cry and scream, sometimes they would even act out in class. I was called several times the first few weeks. Adjusting to this unfamiliar place was somewhat difficult for me.Not knowing where to turn to, feeling like I had no one to confide in was really stressful. Feeling like the move was not going to work out, like if I had failed; and that I was not going to survive. People all around the world has experienced a difficult move once in there life. There will feel like; so many hassles in a situation like this one. I had no choice but to except all that I went through. I had to be strong not only for myself, but for my children. Each year the postal service delivers 212 billion pieces of mail to over 144 million homes, businesses and Post Office boxes in virtually every state, city and town in the country, including Puerto Rico, Guam, the American Virgin Islands and American Samoa. Each year, drivers would have to attend a drivers training in-service in order to continue driving a motor vehicle for the Postal Service. The in-service would be a hands-on training session where the drivers would need to pass a road course. Lastly, the Postal Service can execute a more stringent driving record policy. Upon hire, the candidate would need to provide a certified driving record as a condition of employment. On an ongoing basis, the Postal Service would run annual driving record checks. If any new traffic violations appear, depending on the severity of the violation, the employee would be transferred to a position that does not require driving or their employment would be separated. The time it would take to implement the accident-free incentive option would be 6-12 months. The policy would need to be developed and approved, then an effective date would need to be determined, it could be the first of the year or the beginning of the fiscal year for the Postal Service. The cost and ease of implementation would be fairly straightforward, just the cost and resources utilized to develop the policy. The annual bonus payout wouldn’t be determined until the savings from the year is figured out. Once the savings is figured out, the bonus would be a percentage of that amount and of course, each year that amount would vary. Having an incentive for drivers to take the time and think about their actions while driving, could result in a high return on investment for the Postal Service. If traffic accidents decrease even the slightest bit, the cost savings could be hundreds of thousands of dollars. The time and cost to implement the annual drivers training option would be more lengthy and expensive. The Postal Service would need to locate a facility in each state to hold the driver training and hire qualified trainers. Providing more intensive driver training could also result in decreased traffic accidents for the Postal Service. The problem with this option is not only is it costly, employees may not take the training seriously. There have been many trainings that I have attended where employees tend to goof-off and not take it as seriously as they should. The last option regarding implementing driving record checks would be relatively inexpensive. Upon hire, the candidate would absorb the initial cost of obtaining their driving record but going forward on annual basis, the Postal Service would be responsible for the cost. A driving record costs around $10. 00 and with an estimated 214,000 drivers, the annual cost would be around $2,140,000. This option seems costly; however, if the traffic accidents decrease as a result of the checks, the amount of money saved would more than the Postal Service pays for the driving record checks. Not only will employees take this option seriously, the Postal Service would see a dramatic decrease in traffic accidents.
